CLassroom rules

I feel strongly about creating a classroom environment that benefits everyone and prepares children for the future.  Please read over these policies and rules carefully with your students.

 WELCOME!

We are so excited about working with your child. Our classroom goal for the year is success and responsibility! We hope that we are able to work together to achieve this.

CLASSROOM RULES

RESPECT OTHERS

DO YOUR BEST

USE YOUR MANNERS

Accelerated Reader (A.R.)

This year your children will be using the accelerated reader program everyday. They will be given time in class for reading and they are welcome to take home the books. Students will have a set goal for each marking period that they are required to meet for an A in reading. This is a test score and a large part of the grade.

Acceptable Work

All work MUST include the students name and number to be accepted and considered on time.

Behavior Plan

Students are expected to follow rules: If they are not, they will be asked to remove a WOW chip from their desk and record in the red book what rule was broken. This is a quiet procedure that will help with behavior.

                           No WOW tickets are given.

**All violent matters will be dealt with immediately and suspension can be given.

Class Store

For good grades, good behavior, manners, responsibility and friendship your child will earn pretend money to purchase items in our class store. Your child will be responsible for keeping the money at his or her desk. Also, on Fridays your child will have the chance to trade up for higher coin values. We hope this will help with the objective of making change and economics.

Homework

Each night of the school week your child will have two homework responsibilities:

  1. One piece of homework will be assigned daily. This is usually a 15-20 minute task.

  2. Any work not finished in class MUST be completed at home and returned by 8:00 the following day.

Any homework not returned on time a homework check will be given and a communication sticker will be sent home.

Planners

After your child has completed ALL homework, we ask that you sign his or her planner each night. Our main goal with the planner is to maintain parent/teacher communication. If a planner is not present with the child on any day, a planner check will be given and communication sticker will be sent home.

Monthly Checks

In order to inform you about your child's day, a sticker will be placed in the planner if she is missing work, behavior, or a signature check has been given.

Monthly Reward Activities

Each month students will be rewarded with an activity outside of their schoolwork. These activities are about 1-2 hours in length, happen at the end of the month, and are with the other third grade classes.

Monthly reward parties are only awarded to those students with less than three checks in any one area. For example, if your child has three homework checks they may not attend, however, if they have two homework checks and one planner check, they are still eligible for the party. Students not eligible for the party will be supervised and work on missing assignments or read.

TOY Policy

Due to past problems, we have established a “NO TOY” or trading card policy in our classroom. Students may not bring toys of any type into the classroom. Toys are to left in lockers and only used on the playground. Any toy will be taken away and not returned until the last day of school.

Snack

Each day we will take a 10-15 minute snack break. Your child will be responsible for his or her own snack. A healthy snack such as dry cereals, crackers, fruits or vegetables are suggested. No candy, sugary foods or pop. We do have nut allergies in our school, so please be aware and provide accordingly.

Talents

We love to celebrate diversity and with that we like to celebrate the talents of your child. Every Friday children are allowed to share talents that they may have. They can sing, dance, rap, read, show us artwork, tell a joke, or anything unusual that is unique to whom they are. Please encourage your child to practice his or her talent and share with our class!

Water Bottles

Water bottles are permitted in class provided they have a suitable lid. Only water will be allowed. Water bottles are your child’s responsibility, however we suggest they take them home every Friday for thorough cleaning. Misuse will be result in privileges being removed.

POSITIVE PLAN

Reward parties are given, money is awarded, wow tickets are given. Positive reinforcement encourages positive responsibility and success!

All of these rules and procedures are meant to teach responsibility and be successful . We will model these rules and procedures before your child will be expected to follow them.
